A map of the best Gyms located in St. Pete, FL

Seriously Strong Training is new to St. Petersburg, FL, and so am I.

Whenever I'm new to a city like St. Pete I find myself wondering where the best gyms are.

Route one is to google "st. pete gyms", or "gyms in st. pete" and then visit the results one-by-one, reading reviews, comparing amenities, and finally visiting them.

Route two is to find locals in social hot spots like Grassroots Kava House or Station House St. Pete where fitness addicts hang out and ask them for recommendations.

Route three, the best route, is to read a blog post written by somebody (me) who has already done routes one & two for you.

The gyms on this list are "traditional" gyms in the sense that they offer monthly memberships for solo workouts. I didn't include St. Pete CrossFit gyms on this list. You won't find OrangeTheory Fitness Downtown St. Petersburg here either. These are gyms with barbells, resistance machines, and dumbbells for you to use in solo workouts.

I've included all the pertinent information you need to narrow down the list of places that fit your needs based on price, location, amenities, and given you my thoughts on the gym.

If you have any corrections, differing opinions, or just found this list useful leave us a comment below and share the article!

And, if you are interested in personal training in St. Pete, make sure you check out Seriously Strong Training St. Petersburg!

Our Take: Amped Fitness is a great gym because it is open 24 hours. If you’re a night owl you always have the option of training here late when the crowds are gone. They also have all of the necessary equipment needed to complete a solid upper or lower body workout. Amped has ample cardio machines including treadmills, ellipticals and rowing machines. This is a DTSP location and a favorite of those living downtown.

Our Take (Downtown Location): Quiet, friendly and supportive, smiling staff.  The facility is always clean, and the membership is $35 per month. Not as cheap as some others in the area (Amped comes to mind), but this fee does give you 24/7 access to all Anytime Fitness gyms. This gym has a wide range of equipment in an admittedly small space (the biggest drawback). The Annex, located next door, is an addition to the original gym with more open space and free weight implements more to strength training & cross training modalities. The Annex is their personal training focused area, and sometimes they will ask members to vacate it for personal training clients.

Our Take: Beach Bods Gym is a great 24 hour access gym for those who live near the beach or are on St. Pete Beach vacation. The staff is incredibly friendly and the atmosphere is motivating! The people in the gym are incredibly focused and there to workout hard for their results. Clean facility and the staff is very accommodating to new members and those traveling from out of town.

Our Take: City Gym St. Pete is located in close proximity to Amped Fitness, Anytime Fitness, and Downtown St. Pete. This gym has been around a while, and it feels that way inside. I'd call City Gym an old school joint. It's got what you need, and they even offer a free 7 day pass to try them out. There is a Licensed Massage Therapist on-site and you may find it convenient to go to one spot for both a workout and a massage.

Our Take: LA Fitness is the big dog. It has everything a commercial health club can offer--pool, basketball, an enormous selection of resistance training equipment, group classes, child care, the works. It's also a little pricier than some gyms, but it's still entirely reasonable at ~$1 a day. If you're someone who loves amenities you won't find a better place than LA Fitness. If you're someone that loves raw strength training, LA Fitness falls short in a few places. My biggest gripe is their hexagonal plates--they make deadlifting a painful (bloody shins) experience. Still, the facilities are always clean, well-maintained, and well-staffed.

Notable Amenities: Tanning Beds, showers, massage chairs, hydromassage.
Gym Specialties: Health Club
Our Take: We're getting a little far from what I think of as St. Pete, but this Planet Fitness is still within the city limits of St. Pete. It's a normal Planet Fitness--it offers everything you can find at another Planet Fitness. Tanning, hydromassage beds, locker rooms & showers. This location is a little smaller than some other Planet Fitness gyms I've been to, but they still managed to fit their standard equipment in (just not as many duplicates). There is additional parking in the rear of the building if you go at a busy time (4:30pm-7:30pm).

Phone Number: (727) 822-9394

Gym Specialties: General Fitness
Our Take: Suncoast Fitness offers options for all fitness levels, including numerous cardio machines, free weights, resistance machines, and regular classes for members. This is located on 4th Street in St Pete in a shopping center that can be challenging to navigate for the uninitiated. The gym is a good option for those looking to get both cardio and lifting done. They also have a daycare, locker room and are open 24/7. This great for those who work irregular hours or enjoy working out when the gym isn’t crowded. Friendly staff and very clean space. Disinfectant spray can be found throughout the gym which is always a good sign.

Our Take: USF St Pete is has an amazing fitness facility on campus that is open for all students to use during operating hours. They also offer memberships to the public at what we are told is a very good rate. They have a multitude of cardio machines, a large weight training area, and several aerobic rooms. An overall spacious, clean and welcoming gym located on the USF St Pete Campus.

Our Take: YouFit in St Pete, located on 9th Avenue and Tyrone has an incredibly welcoming environment, friendly staff and affordable prices. A great gym for those who live on the outskirts of downtown St Pete. They have cardio equipment, free weights, machines, squat racks and a yoga studio where they offer weekly classes to members.
